OKLAHOMA CITY–Two more Oklahoma Insurance Department (OID) employees have graduated from the Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training (CLEET) Academy.
“I am tremendously pleased that we have two more CLEET certified officers to help us protect Oklahoma consumers,” said Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner John D. Doak. “I have no doubt that the expansion of our Anti-Fraud Unit will lead to more arrests across the state. It should also make the criminals think twice about going after Oklahomans.”
The Anti-Fraud Unit investigates claims of fraud, embezzlement, exploitation of the elderly and other insurance-related crimes. Under Commissioner Doak, the Unit has been expanded and re-focused to pursue those targeting some of the state’s most vulnerable residents.
“Many of the crimes we investigate are heartbreaking,” said Doak. “Seniors have been scammed out of their life savings, tornado victims have paid contractors who disappeared without finishing the job and some families in mourning have had to deal with a second blow – having to pay for a funeral their loved one thought they had already taken care of. We’re committed to stopping these crimes and many more.”
The Unit’s efforts are supported by the Anti-Fraud Revolving Fund. It contains settlements, fines and penalties obtained from multi-state lawsuits and investigations. It allows the Anti-Fraud Unit to operate without taxpayer expense.
