OKLAHOMA CITY– Due to popular demand, the Oklahoma Insurance Department (OID) has scheduled Senior Fraud Conferences in two more cities, Ponca City and Durant.
“We’ve had a great response to these conferences,” said Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner John D. Doak. “That tells me that Oklahoma’s senior adults are concerned about their financial safety and they want to do all they can to protect themselves.”
The initial conferences, sponsored by the SMP program, were attended by hundreds of seniors in McAlester, Woodward, Lawton, Norman and Tulsa. After a free breakfast, they learned how to spot, avoid and fight fraud.
The conference topics include: Medicare Fraud, Funeral Home Trust Fraud, Contractor Fraud and Investment Fraud. Participants will also attend a “Fraud Fashion Show”. It features utility workers, city workers and first responders in their official uniforms explaining what happens during a legitimate home visit. The conference is free for senior adults and includes breakfast. There is a $25 fee for insurance and law enforcement professionals seeking Continuing Education credit. Preregistration is encouraged.
