OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma Insurance Department (OID) is pleased to announce that Oklahoma’s Medicare beneficiaries saved more than $2 million after receiving free assistance during Medicare’s Open Enrollment period.
“I cannot even begin to say how pleased I am that we could help Oklahoma seniors navigate this very important process,” said Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner John D. Doak. “Our counselors were able to help many Oklahomans save a significant amount of money. That savings will make a big difference in their everyday lives.”
OID’s Medicare Assistance Program provides unbiased information about Medicare products. During Open Enrollment, MAP counselors helped more than 7,000 Medicare beneficiaries review their plans. Their average savings was between $500 and $1,000 for the upcoming year. One individual, after reviewing her Part D drug plan, had the opportunity to save $33,000 alone.
“During the last week of Open Enrollment, our office took 1,551 calls from Oklahoma seniors,” said MAP Division Director Ray Walker. “We were prepared to answer all types of questions relating to Medicare and were thrilled to be able to uncover significant savings for many of the beneficiaries.”
The Open Enrollment period has ended, but MAP counselors are available to answer Medicare questions year-round. The toll-free hotline is 1-800-763-2828. Information is also available at www.oid.ok.gov.
